U-23 Vietnam beat U-23 Malaysia 2-1 at their opening match of the four-team Eximbank Cup held from September 28 to October 2 in Ho Chi Minh City to celebrate the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi.
Anh Duc scored all two opening goals for the hosts Vietnam before goalkeeper Tan Truong made a wrong pass in his box to the rival striker, who took the chance to cushion a goal and shortened the gap.
Just 18 minutes into the match, Thanh Trung sped up in the right wing and set up Anh Duc in a favorable position to blast a close-range shot to open the score.
Seven minutes later, Anh Duc received a pass from Van Thang in the Malaysian box and didn’t make a mistake in driving the ball into the net.
In the second half, both sides created some chances but none of them was well converted into goal. Players mainly fought for the ball in the middle of field during the second period.
In the other match, U-23 Iran were held to a 1-1 draw by U-23 Malaysia.
Vietnam will next take on Singapore on Thursday.
